Today we checked if the ice of Kinkasalmi is already strong enough. The weakest place was 15 cm thick. A problem might be that there is a layer of 2 cm water on the ice and on top of that again 3 cm ice and 3-7 cm snow.

Between Kinkasalmi and Rovastinoja is an large area of bad Ice. Today we research the area quit a bit and made an optimised route trough the are. The Ice will need some work, but if wecan get it snow free, the weather probably will do already quite a bit! Between the yellow dashed lines is the bad ice. Ice thickness is everywher more then 12 cm. Ofcource near Rovastinoja there is no ice.

Today I measured for the first time of this season the ice thickness. It varied from 7 to 22.

The first 4 km have been done! Ice thickness varied from 17 cm to 0.01 cm . Yes, but 1 cm thickness was really the minimum we dared. Fortunately I was together with Timo. Ice was very uneven due to strong wind during last week. Hopefully next weekend a lot of new ice and hopefully no snow!

Perjantai 20.2.2009. Aurinkoinen päivä hemmotteli Savitaipaleen luistelutapahtuman koululaisluistelua. Savitaipaleen ja Suomenniemen koulut sekä Kimpisen lukio Lappeenrannasta osallistui koululaisluisteluun. Kävijöitä kertyi paikalle päivän mittaan yli 700, mikä lienee koululaistapahtuman yleisöennätys.

route inspection 17.02.2009

Alhoewel het 2de deel van de route nog niet geopend is, toch vandaag even de route doorlopen. IJs is op het nieuwe 2de deel nog niet echt schaatsbaar. IJs is nog erg dun op die plaatsen waar water op het ijs is gekomen. Het ‘speed-profiel’ laat zien dat je er nog niet sneller vooruit komt dan loopsnelheid! De lengte van de totale route is 9.65 km!

Maanatai 16.2.2009. Oppilaiden kanssa.

Kävin oppilaiden kanssa luistelemassa. Rata oli samanlaisessa kunnossa kuin sunnuntaina. Maanantaina avattiin jälkimmäinen lenkki. Vettä oli uudella lenkillä lumen alla monin paikoin reilusti. Uuden rataosuuden täytyy saada rauhassa jäätyä. Keskiviikkona ja torstaina uusi osuus höylätään kuntoon.

Sunnuntai 15.2.2009. Lumen peitossa.

Rata oli ohuen lumen peitossa, mutta tasainen. Railoja tuntui olevan jonkin verran, mutta ne eivät juurikaan haitanneet menoa. Väkeä oli tasaisesti liikkeellä koko päivän sekä luistimilla että potkukelkoilla. Luistelin Päivin kanssa kolme kertaa radan ympäri.
